Tesla is widening its robotaxi footprint. But scale still looks thin.

Tesla has expanded its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston. That matters because it pushes the company beyond a single-city story in Austin. But the other side of the story matters too: early tracking still suggests very small fleet depth outside Austin. Expansion is happening. Operational density is still the real question.

China is tightening the screws after recent safety events.

Three Chinese ministries have ordered a nationwide self-inspection and rectification campaign for intelligent connected vehicle road tests. That is the more important signal now. China still wants scale, but it is making clear that faster rollout does not mean weaker oversight.

EUROPE

Waymo is no longer just watching Europe. It is driving into it.

Waymo has started autonomous testing on public roads in London with about 100 Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, a human safety operator behind the wheel, and a test area of roughly 100 square miles. That makes London more than a map-building exercise. It is now an operational Europe story.

GERMANY

Hamburg is still one of the most concrete German operator stories.

The ALIKE project remains highly relevant because it connects autonomous technology to real public transport logic. HOCHBAHN says the first autonomous shuttles from MOIA and HOCHBAHN are already being tested on Hamburg streets without passengers, and that test users are expected to ride from 2026. Up to 20 autonomous vehicles are planned in the project. This is not a flashy launch. It is the harder part: building the operating base.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT / ÖPNV

The next serious autonomy battlefield may be the airport, not the robotaxi curb.

Fusion Processing has secured government-backed funding to study autonomous airside staff transport at UK airports. The key point is not the vehicle alone, but the operating model: Level 4, no-user-in-charge vehicles in a controlled but demanding transport environment. That makes this a serious public transport and operations story, not a gimmick.

BOTTOM LINE

Robotaxis are spreading. But the pressure is moving into operations.

The market is expanding across Texas, London, Hamburg and controlled airport environments. At the same time, China is reminding everyone that supervision and emergency response still matter. The next winners will not be defined by software demos alone. They will be defined by who can industrialise approvals, fleet operations, control-centre logic and reliability at scale.

Tesla weitet seinen Robotaxi-Fußabdruck aus. Aber die Dichte bleibt dünn.

Tesla hat seinen Robotaxi-Dienst auf Dallas und Houston ausgeweitet. Das ist relevant, weil das Unternehmen damit nicht mehr nur als Austin-Story gelesen werden kann. Gleichzeitig bleibt die andere Seite der Wahrheit bestehen: Außerhalb von Austin wirkt die operative Tiefe bislang noch sehr klein. Der Rollout läuft. Die eigentliche Frage ist weiter die Belastbarkeit im Betrieb.

China zieht nach jüngsten Sicherheitsereignissen die Aufsicht an.

Drei chinesische Ministerien haben eine landesweite Selbstinspektion und Nachschärfung der Sicherheitsaufsicht für intelligente vernetzte Fahrzeuge angeordnet. Genau das ist jetzt die wichtigere Botschaft. China will weiter skalieren, aber nicht ohne schärfere Kontrolle entlang des Test- und Einsatzprozesses.

EUROPA

Waymo schaut nicht mehr nur auf Europa. Waymo fährt jetzt hinein.

Waymo testet inzwischen auf öffentlichen Straßen in London mit rund 100 Jaguar I-Pace, einem Human Safety Operator im Fahrzeug und einem Testgebiet von etwa 100 Quadratmeilen. Genau dadurch wird London mehr als nur ein Mapping- oder PR-Thema. Es wird zu einer echten Europa-Story im Betrieb.

DEUTSCHLAND

Hamburg bleibt eine der konkretesten deutschen Betreiber-Storys.

Das ALIKE-Projekt bleibt relevant, weil es autonome Technik mit echter ÖPNV-Logik verbindet. Laut HOCHBAHN laufen die ersten autonomen Shuttles von MOIA und HOCHBAHN bereits ohne Fahrgäste im Testbetrieb auf Hamburgs Straßen, und ab 2026 sollen Testnutzer erstmals mitfahren können. Geplant sind bis zu 20 autonome Fahrzeuge. Das ist keine Showmeldung. Das ist der Aufbau einer realen Betriebsbasis.

ÖPNV

Der nächste ernsthafte AV-Kampfplatz könnte der Flughafen sein und nicht der Robotaxi-Bordstein.

Fusion Processing hat staatlich unterstützte Mittel erhalten, um autonomen Airside-Staff-Transport an UK-Airports zu prüfen. Der entscheidende Punkt ist nicht nur das Fahrzeug, sondern das Betriebsmodell: Level 4, No-User-In-Charge, klar definierte Einsatzumgebung, aber trotzdem echter Transportbetrieb. Genau deshalb ist das eine ernsthafte Operations- und ÖPNV-Story.

FAZIT

Robotaxis breiten sich aus. Aber der Druck wandert in den Betrieb.

Der Markt dehnt sich über Texas, London, Hamburg und kontrollierte Flughafenumgebungen aus. Gleichzeitig macht China klar, dass Aufsicht und Reaktionsfähigkeit nicht verschwinden. Gewinnen wird am Ende nicht nur die beste Software. Gewinnen wird, wer Genehmigung, Leitstelle, Flottenlogik und Zuverlässigkeit auf echte Größe bringt.
